The Future of Mobile
Will Blow Your Mind – Part 2
January 27, 2016
Welcome to Alphabet Domains Live Online Marketing Class … “The Future of Mobile Will Blow Your Mind!” Part 2
The Future of Mobile was a very big question forty one years ago … a little history …
Then as now … people wondered what was going on with the phone business. They understood the car phone … now they’re talking mobile …
Forty-one years ago, Martin Cooper, an engineer for Motorola, had the idea that everyone could have a phone in-hand as they moved around.
A little history of Martin “Marty” Cooper … from Wikipedia.
Martin “Marty” Cooper (b. December 26, 1928) is an American engineer. He is a pioneer and visionary in the wireless communications industry.
With eleven patents in the field, he is recognized as an innovator in radio spectrum management.
While at Motorola in the 1970s, Cooper conceived the first handheld mobile phone (distinct from the car phone) in 1973.
He led the team that developed it and brought it to market in 1983. He is considered the “father of the cell phone”.
He is also cited as the first person in history to make a handheld cellular phone call in public.
Cooper is co-founder of numerous successful communications companies with his wife and business partner Arlene Harris … also known as the “first lady of wireless.”
He is co-founder and current Chairman of Dyna LLC, in Del Mar, California … still working on the “mobile” of things. Arlene Harris is President and Co-Founder of DYNA, LLC. She has over 35 years of experience as an entrepreneur.
Cooper also sits on committees supporting the U.S. Federal Communications Commission and the United States Department of Commerce.
Back in 1972 “Marty” wanted people to be able to carry their phones with them anywhere. Not tied to the cord. He saw the Future of Mobile!
The phone he used weighed more than two pounds, and it took 10 hours to charge it for a mere 35 minutes of conversation.
It was a far cry from today’s sleek handheld devices … and it had a price tag of $3,995 … out the door … WOW!
It was hard to imagine a phone ever becoming a crucial tool in everyday life, used daily by everyone from businessmen to elementary school children.
“Marty” … “father of the cell phone” … saw it and he must be quite amazed today to see what he started … amazed to look out the window and see school kids, moms, dads and the truckers making phone calls on devices in their hands.
For most people, this is so normal … but not in 1973.
“Marty” saw the future and the future is now … and it is mind blowing, to say the least.
Not only are people talking, they’re sending “mail” through the “sky” and they call it “email” … this would make the Pony Express proud!
Those guys … riding multiple horses for days just to get a bag of mail to it’s destination … now around the world in a couple of seconds.
Where does mobile go from here …
Advertisers now know how to get the “gold” we talked about a few weeks ago. They even know where to “dig”.
Let’s look at what they see on multiple levels and discover how we can secure our “place” in this “Future of Mobile”.
Just as “Marty” saw all those phones in all of these hands in 1973 … advertisers (including us) see the reality and know they have to take action.
This “Future of Mobile” has given rise to phrases like mobile marketing, mobile advertising, mobile apps, mobile web, mobile analytics and many more. Phrases that were unheard of just a few decades ago. They are now as common as the word television.
With the computer came online advertising … with the cellphone came mobile advertising. Mobile advertising is outpacing online advertising in growth, scope and opportunities.
Mobile advertising is a close relative to online advertising but its reach and penetration is far greater and it’s impact is global. Literally, it’s mobile global advertising.
Online advertising is tied to computers (PCs) which totaled about two billion in 2015 on the back of strong growth in the emerging markets.
According to a report by Forrester Research, the world had over a billion active PCs by the end of 2008. This number was expected to rise to two billion in 2015 on the back of strong growth in the emerging markets.
On the other hand, the number of mobile phones is already expected to be exceed the world’s population this year. There are now well over 7.3 billion active mobile phones and the number is rising at an astronomical rate every month.
Over one billion mobile phones are expected to be sold in 2016 and advertisers realize this fact. They are taking action … right now!
With over 95% of the world population having access to cellular networks … advertisers realize the customers are there in place … ready to embrace mobile advertising that will connect with them.
What can we do to connect …
Now we have to connect with them … using state of the art methods, not take “your best shot and hope for the best!”
No sitting around with the “deer in the headlights” approach … all advertisers must have a marketing strategy in place from contact (connection) to delivery of the product or service.
Advertisers realize mobile advertising offers greater gains and benefits compared to online advertising … and are implementing their marketing plan.
This is implementation is becoming more evident when we observe the marketing plans (actions) of corporations.
Corporations like Adperio …
According to Wikipedia … Adperio was founded in 1994 and offers social media, email, SEO, mobile and other emerging technology solutions.
Did you get that … “mobile and other emerging technology solutions”. They are hard at work on the technology to connect with mobile customers.
Adperio is able to engage users across iOS, Android and feature phones, providing endless opportunities for mobile app developers.
Adperio is able to engage users across iOS, Android and feature phones, providing opportunities for online businesses as well.
Companies providing this kind of “mobile and other emerging technology solutions” are actively looking for Account Executives to be connect with advertisers.
That’s right … Account Executives to be connect with advertisers who they know are in need of the “mobile and other emerging technology solutions” they provide.
These type of Account Executive jobs are on the rise. The “Future of Mobile” creates job opportunities for those Achievers who’re ready to become active participants in the “Future of Mobile” … like “Marty” back in 1973.
Are you ready to be an Account Executive? Companies are actively looking for you right now. Just like Motorola back in 1973.
More “mobile” is coming … mobile has created the need for content writers and content providers … the need exist because of “content marketing”.
Like the “1849 gold rush”, companies are placing the “stake” in the ground … letting the world know they are “all in”.
This is very clear from the actions of Facebook … like “Marty” in ’73, FB sees the future and is putting it’s “stake” in the “ground”.
There were many “players” in the FB marketing plan … It’s being reported that Facebook is building it’s own marketing empire.
Facebook’s mobile ad revenue is in the billions with several million advertisers utilizing FB’s system. Publishers are providing content.
Yes, Facebook has been working with publishers who are providing content … they understand content marketing.
Lesson: Take the time to understand content marketing and go right to work implementing it into your mobile marketing strategy.
Why is this content marketing so important today?
Because to be successful in this “Future of Mobile” we have to pivot towards what leads to online success. Gone are the days where the status quo prevailed.
Not to say your current plan is lacking … marketing is about the future, future connections with consumers, networks and mobile consumers like in ’73.
This “Future of Mobile” is moving so fast, it is imperative that smaller firms speed up the marketing of goods and services. Design an effective marketing plan that includes emphasis on content.
The Future of Mobile is in the hands of customers … whoever can create the brand loyalty will be in their future.
You might think you need to get an iOS or Android app and put it in the “store” to succeed … consider this …
People will continue to browse the web using their smartphones. Apps are very popular, but mobile Web browsing isn’t going anywhere.
According to a comScore report last year, digital media consumption in mobile Web browsers increased 53 percent from 2013 to 2015.
Notice this fact: Between 35 percent and 40 percent of traffic to news sites comes from mobile devices, with 93 percent of mobile audiences coming from the mobile Web.
The mobile Web is very active for mobile users. There are now 3.5 times more Web properties (domain names) than mobile apps.
Those online properties (domain names and websites) are becoming mobile-friendly or mobile only sites. Hosting mobile web (sites) is what’s hot. Look at all of the ads for hosting plans. Hosting companies realize their role in the “Future of Mobile”.
Lesson: Smaller companies (mom and pop) and entrepreneurs should look to the future of mobile for their programs, so as not to be left behind.
Incorporate mobile into your marketing plan … use content marketing, mobile webs to handle your marketing.
Focus on the mobile web not just app creation…
Focus on the mobile web not just app creation … pivot towards a domain name with the word “mobile” in it, create a separate marketing site or use an already existing online property (social media).
Look back through the thread for more marketing ideas …
Decide what is best for your program and go to work getting it done … the big “sharks” are circling (large corporations) and they want all the fish in the sea.
Content Marketing … Part of the Future of Mobile is on the rise … use this …
Content marketing comes in virtually every format under the sun, including: blogs, microsites, print and digital publications, social media conversations, visual content, podcasts, video, apps, user-generated content and more.
There are several goals of content marketing…
Content marketing has to inform and educate consumers, get the reader motivated to follow their passion in life or to provide content an audience will value.
Regardless of the reason, content marketing will become part of our everyday experience on mobile … remember FB is on it right now.
Now the future of mobile phone hardware …
What we will be able to do with mobile hardware is a part of the “Future of Mobile”. This brings us to another technology.
There is what’s called Open-source technology … it is part of The Future of Mobile”.
Mobile phone repair and other mobile devices are going to have some new “players” in the repair game … the Do It Yourself (DIY) culture.
As Open-source technology becomes part of our future. Individuals will be able to go into their own mobile phones and modify them, just like in the movies.
People will be doing crucial upgrades without having to purchase new ones … connecting us globally as we improve our own mobile phones.
What we call the Do It Yourself culture … DIY culture will be part of the daily lives of moms, housewives, dads even the 12 yr old.
By becoming a part of the DIY technology, we’ll fear it less… and as a result, we’ll will also be able to “push the boundaries”. Equipped to “go where no one has gone before.”
By becoming a part of this mobile technology, we will know what it means to be interconnected on a global basis. Where your customer is 5,000 miles away and your talking in real time.
The Future of Mobile Will Blow Your Mind … is one deep story and one that will ultimately drive profitable customer action.
Next week … Alphabet Domains Live Online Marketing Class … “The Future of Mobile Will Blow Your Mind!” Part 3.
Together we will explore the hurdles, hoops and the way to ultimate success … The Future of Mobile Will Blow Your Mind!” Part 3.
Thanks everybody … have a great evening …

Reuters reports – Wed Jan 27, 2016 7:28pm EST …
Facebook Inc smashed investors’ expectations with a 52-percent jump in quarterly revenue as it sold more ads targeted at a fast-growing number of mobile users, sending its shares sharply higher after hours.
Facebook shares rose almost 12 percent in after-hours trading to $105.32.
Total revenue rose to $5.84 billion from $3.85 billion a year earlier, with ad revenue increasing 56.8 percent to $5.64 billion in the holiday shopping period, when spending on advertising typically spikes.
Facebook’s dominance in mobile advertising helped to allay Wall Street concerns over its heavy investments in the messaging service, WhatsApp and virtual reality unit Oculus, which have not yet generated profits.
Apart from focusing on mobile, Facebook has been ramping up spending on what it calls “big bets,” including virtual reality, artificial intelligence and drones to connect the remotest parts of the world to the Internet.
This Reuters report came in after class tonight and is an addendum to the initial program.
